I shifted into drive while rolling into reverse. There was a pop.
Car will not go into any gear...
When I shift into park the auto shifter bounces around and the car makes a WRRRRRRRRRRR sound. It still does not shift into ANY gear......

Luckily the car was stuck in neutral =)

In addition this happened in sub zero temperatures.

Did I break a shifter cable?? How and what do I need to do next???? HOW MUCH????

ANY SUGGESTIONS AT THIS JUNCTURE WILL BE TREATED WITH PROMPT CONSIDERATION...PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

 

maybe a broken axle?? when the car is in neutral running does the speedometer read any mph(0-30mph) for example.that would be a broken axle.

when you put the car in park does the gauge cluster read that it is in p?
how about any of the other gears do they read r n d4 d3 2 1in the gauge cluster while move the shifter.

if you put the car in park will the car role if you push it??

 

it IS the axle.....I looked down behind the engine and while it was in park idling I could see the spindles turning on the passenger side....and yes if the car is shut off in park I can roll it...

also. Two weeks ago I just had two brand new cv shafts replaced. Does this mean they are shredded?????? or is the axle a separate component all together......

The tires were spinning IN REVERSE at high rpm when the automatic shifted into drive....does this mean I sheared them (front axles) apart??

 

i would have it towed to were ever you got the axles put in maybe they have warranty on them if not you will need to buy new axles

 

The axles are completely disconnected and spinning freely.......is it possible for me to slide them back in.....the boots are still attached...

 

i would try that first

 

if it popped out once it will pop out again. Take it straight back to where you had the work done.
