Default How do you know when your rotors are done?

After CMP this past weekend my rotors are extremely grooved. This is my first event with Carbotech XP pads. Pretty much nothing but pretty deep grooves over the whole pad contact area. I have never seen this so Im assuming that the rotors are done and I should get new ones before FATT next week. Am I correct here or is this normal behavior for track pads and hard braking?

Measure them and compare that measurement to the minimum thickness (stamped or cast in the back of the rotor somewhere).

Rotors and pads are disposable. If they're cut deep, replace 'em.

They dont shudder and only have a few tiny hair cracks
So you are saying they should be ok even with the grooves?

They only have 14,000 street miles and 3 HPDE weekends on them

Miles and # of events don't matter
I've got 37000 miles on my truck God knows how many track events or miles but I've been through. But I've gone through 6 rotors and 12 sets of pads
REPLACE THEM
Ive been going through A set of pads and a rotor every weekend
That's why the trucks been at home almost every weekend

Rotors are done when they are smaller than the specifiied limit
or when black sports appear on the rotor
or there are cracks

I have to pay $100 each and wait over a week to get my replacements.....

Corey my grooves are very similar to the grooves in that pic (no crack of course)

Would the grooves alone be reason to replace those rotors?

Evan

dammit boy.

Maybe i can get j00 a deal on some OE rotors from my dad. Dont buy that aftermarket slotted crap. Soon as you get those brake lines in we'll do some wrenching and drinking

Are those grooves, or is that pad buildup on the rotors?

They way the light is reflecting off them differently at the "lines" leads me to believe that they're grooves.

They're grooves. Mine groove slightly w/ Hawk Blues, but not that badly.

well new rotors last about 1 weekend on my car with Hawk blues. I have them turned and get another weekend, but 2 weekends is the limit.

the integra has margional brakes at best, when compared to something like a Porsche 944. This means they work harder to stop the car and hence groove easily. I get half a season from the 944 rotors.

My advise is check them after every session. along with everything else.

King RAT.

OE WRX rotors blow. Soft as hell and dont vent very well. Unfortunately I cant get nice cheap Brembo blanks for my car. The best alternative for stock braking system is DBA rotors which vent very well and have a nice hard structure meant to be used with agressive pads. They are also about the same price ($100/ea) as OE rotors. unfortunately they dont come in blank, best I can do is slotted. Still better than the OE crap, and for the same $$

Why I want to get a nice Stoptech kit

Alex, try the Ferodo DS3000 pads from http://www.Cobaltfriction.com

I have used blues, and these pads are very simular, but don't tare the chit out of your rotors, mine still look fairly new from CMP.. And I still have 2/3 pad left, needless to say, I am very happy with them..
