What a rough weekend at CMP.
Well I'm finally back home after the 14 hour drive from CMP! We had engine troubles all weekend long. First, we had an oil line from the oil cooler routed incorrectly which was causing low oil pressure
. Secondly, while installing my oil catch can prior to the weekend, I accidently re-routed the water bypass line coming off the block into the the valve cover ... basically coolant was sucked into the valve cover! Yes, this was a boneheaded mistake!!! Luckily we caught the problem quickly though. After fixing the above mistakes, we drained all engine fluids and refilled. I thought everything was fine ... but the car kept on throwing CEL #22 (Problem with VTEC activation). It's odd because the car will engage VTEC while not moving ... but about when driving a lap or so ... the CEL comes on and goes into "safe mode." I decided to call it a weekend ... didn't want to do any engine damage. Also, on Sat. I developed Heat Exhaustion prior to the race. My brother tried to drive the car in the race (at that point we thought the car was okay) but, the car threw a CEL on the parade lap and was towed to the pits. Sorry for causing a delay in the race
.
Thanks to:
Warren for letting me look over his oil cooler set-up
D for helping diagnose the water bypass prob.
Elyse & Grumpy for taking me to the Ambulance for observation.
Lessons Learned:
- Check & re-check all mods done prior to race
- Test drive car prior to race weekend
- If the car is acting strange ... don't attempt to go on the track
- Buy a Tent right away
- Drink plently of Fluids!!!! If your not peeing every couple of hours ... your not drinking enough fluid!!!!!
On the Postitive Side ... Congrats to my brother Peter for putting on a good showing in PS1 in his 91 Sentra SE-R. Also, Congrats to all the Winners on Sat. & Sun.
We'll be back and running soon ... can't wait to dice it out with everyone at Lowes!

Adam - the car was also blowing oil out of the intake, and sucking it back in, hence the huge plumes of smoke from the back and poor idle. There was mobil1 dripping out of the air filter.
RJ - i was in grid when pete asked me to go get you guys.

I understand ... but the car runs fine for about a lap or so ... then throws the CEL.
