Question to those running H2 in Honda Challenge
I am curious as to what oil temperature you guys see on the track.
Could anyone state what temp they are seeing and if they are runing an oil cooler and such.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Well on sunday I looked over and the oil temp gauged was pegged at 280. water temp stays at 220.
I run Mobil1 15w50 with an oil cooler.
Im going to add the accusump as well.

having gauges can be horrifying....
oil press guage stays around 65 psi above 3000 rpm. thats A-OK.
water gauge always around 200 - 210. thats A-OK.
oil temp gauge goes to 170 Celcius (maybe 340 F ?). At Summit it pegged out by 2/3 through the race. I use Mobil 1 and the engine held together. I probably hurt it though. On the cooldown lap, the oil cooler fractured and leaked out about half my oil!!!
I have recently ordered and installed a "NASCAR Motorcraft" racing oil cooler. that **** is bigger than my Del Sol VTEC radiator. This better fix my oil overheating problem, otherwise I am going to remove the oil temp gauge and through it in the trash... (what you can't see can't hurt you philosophy).

Thanks guys, this seems to fall in line with what I was told to expect from my "new" car...
Yack and Chad, there is another red hatchcrap coming to H1 as soon as I can get Comp'ed....
Anyone know when/where the next competition licensing school is being held on the east coast?

Todd, that's so much higher than anyone else is seeing I have to wonder if you've got a bad gauge and/or sender. Just a thought.
Man, I knew you bought that car the first time I saw you reference your "new" car.
I came back from CMP Sunday night and had decided that I was buying it... too late, it was gone. Oh well, good luck with it.

I've thought of this, too, Karl. I am on my second gauge and my second sender. Same results, though....
Sender is mounted in the bottom of the oil pan, slightly to the left and slightly above the oil drain plug. I thought this would be a good place to mount it?
Some have said that I should put the sender in a tee just after the oil cooler. I still don't see why, though. Seems I should know the oil temp of the oil in the pan, which should sort of be the "average" oil temp of oil circulating in the motor.

My sender will be at the filter. In addition to (hopefully) easing the sender install, this puts the sender in the middle of the "loop. On its way out of the engine to the cooler.
The drain pan would, AFAIK, give you the highest temp rating you're gonna see. The oil in the pan has come through the engine and is being pulled up by the sump to where the filter used to be (which is now the "out" to the cooler).
I also wonder if it's possible that the header is artificially raising your readings? I'm clutching at straws here...but those temps are considerably higher than what others seem to be seeing.
Does the B18B have that cooler thingy up by the filter? I think that runs some engine coolant around the oil on the B18C. Maybe that's the difference?

nope. B18A/B LS motors do not have the water/oil cooler hookup. they also don't have oil squirters under the pistons. boo hoo
i will keep running it till it cracks in half and melts like a pat of butter in a frying pan!

the LS oil change is much more painful than the B18C5 oil change...
the back of the oil pan is where I have (and would) mount the sending unit. worse case is the best testing point.
