question about a jdm type r motor help!!
Before you say use the search I already did thanks
Ok I did not want to ask this question but hell here i go. I was told that i got a jdm type r motor when I bought the car and I just dont know 100% for myself heres what I know I guess In the head i ck all the insides like dual valve springs, type r lma's, type r cams and pr3 so I guess the head is type r but now for the main question the block has p72 all over it but I did a compression test and I got these #'s 240 236 238 240 does this look right for a jdm type r. I really dont fell like taking off the head to find out so If any body has any kind of logic answers please tell me what you know thanks and sorry for the dumb questions
If any body dont know Ill just take it to a dyno to see what it does..
thanks to all helps out

sounds JDM to me. Did it come with a P72 ecu too? Also, might want to check the tranny ratio too. Write down the speed and rpm numbers of each gear and do the calculation to see if you have the 4.7 final drive. Its not a sure fire way to determine a JDM tranny, but its a clue.
by the way, the dyno won't tell you if the engine is USDM or JDM...the most definitive way is to calculate the compression and check part by part, but the p72 thing tells me that its JDM unless the seller went out of his way to stamp the block, head, and tranny on his own. Also JDM engines, As far as I know have no VIN tags.

Type R engines (b18c,b18c5,b16b,etc) ALL use the p72 block castings just like the Gs-r or Sir-G does. However since you said your head code is pr3 I would assume you have the JDM Type R as you were told because all Type R engines use the pr3 head. A Gs-r or Sir-G would have a p72 head code not pr3. Also what is your block stamp? B18C?

Distrib could have been swapped, and power outputs could be raised on a USDM b18c1. But from what you describe (compression ratio and the B18C stamp) sounds real to me. Pictures would help.
