i just got a miller syncrowave 250 w/ the cooler & all the running gear for free. it"s not the new model, it is a 2000, but i love it. i have two torches hooked up on it. one small one for doing low amp welding & a bigger one for doing heavier work using alot of amps. make sure you get a cooler w/ yours too. if i were to buy a tig setup i would go with a dynasty only because it is a lot smaller(i am kinda limited on space) & it uses no where near as many input amps to operate.

I'm sayin anything that is over a millermatic 140 (witch i have) would be good.

A syncrowave 250 is a great machine, if you don't do much Al you might find that a dynasty 200dx better suits your bill, they are much smaller and use less power, also have more features.

Go for it, you will love it. I run a fabrication shop with a 185A machine, and it gets me by, even though I sometimes wish it had more juice. The 250 is a great machine, and you'll love it.

why would the dynasty not be well suited for aluminum? I have not used one much but I have a friend running one off 110V temporarily and welding Al with it fine.

I should have specified thicker than 1/4" Al.

An extra 50 amps is a lot if you want to weld 1/4" Al.

I like mine. Make sure you get the watercooled torch. Way mo betta than aircooled when you are welding a long time or heavy stuff.

Think about how often you will be using the machine at full power, around 250amps. Thats a lot, most exhaust work and sch 10 or 40 pipe won't use anything near that. I'm thinking the only time you will be using the machine at full power is when doing thick aluminum. If you don't do a lot of aluminum work, then I'm sure you can get away with the cheaper sync200. Both are very large machines and are not meant to be moved around as easily as the dynasty.
If you look around you can find a sync200 and water cooled torch setup for less than the cost of the sync250 alone.

But hey, if you have the cash to burn, go for it. If you're looking to save a few bucks, I say go for the 200 and water cooled torch then use the extra cash for another machine that will be useful. A decent bandsaw, belt sander etc....
