Alright, this morning I was driving down the highway at about 65 with the cruise control on my 94 LS and the car just died, completely dead stick. I didn't try to restart it at the time because i was afraid it might have been the TB.

Anyway, went back to the house, grabbed some tools and some extra distributor parts and came back and checked the code, 15, ignition. I replaced the coil with another one I had laying around, the car drove fine.

Then tonight, I was driving it again in cruise control and it died again. It had a couple of hard starts afterwards but then it started and I drove it home.

So I think we can rule out starter, I have an extra ignitor but with the infrequency of the way it's cutting off it makes it a tough call. I've pretty much ruled out main relay because I think the problem is a fuel cut with that, but then again, i guess it could be.

Thoughts?

 

also, when i was having the hard starts, the fuel pump was priming but the car would not even attempt to fire, again leading me to believe we have an ignition issue.

 

is the car modified in any way?

 

I would go ahead and swap out the ignitor and go from there.. it shouldn't take long.. then see if the problem persists

 

prob an igniter issue, or crank sensor type issue in dist.

the main problem is that it's only done it twice and both about 20 minutes down the road, i replaced the ignitor with another one I had laying around this morning and i'm letting it run in the garage for 10-15 minutes to see what's up

the car is a virgin.

the ignitor appears to have fixed it, but have you guys looked at how much new ignitors are? At Napa they are like $250 and a whole distributor is $245 + $55 core.

I did get turned on to rockauto.com and they sell beckarnley ones (which I like) for $60, i'll probably replace it shortly to keep everything kosher.

Oh, and as far as updates, I am not in law school anymore and i'm working on moving out west and being a federal agent.
