I am looking for a Cushy CRX passenger seat. My Si seats hurt my girls back (she has some spinal injuries). I was thinking are there any Honda or Acura cushy seats (heated is nice too, not too hard to wire that in) that either bolt in (ha), or I can swap the seat rails, or pans, on?
This is for either a 90 or 91 CRX HF (I have both). Thoughts?

i dont think its as much how hard the seat is but the way the back is made. i think the back is made diff on the hf's has she used them ??
i smashed 4 disk's in my back bad enough i couldnt move for a lil over 30 mins so i know what your talking about..

a crx is not the best car to drive in with a bad back, even with soft seats its a bit of a rough ride.
and guess how people get back injuries in the first place? they ghetto fab and modify seats to fit in a crx that didn't come from the factory.
"oh, you injured your back?, let me just rig up some ghetto seat rails to make these softer seats fit into my crx, in case of an accident, don't worry, you will be sitting in a different position than the factory made the car for you to be sitting in and its likely you will be injured because of this."
tell her to get a boyfriend that isn't such a cheapo.
buy really soft suspension and tell her to wear a weight belt

lol. I guess a race seat gives you back problems. You know even stock seats can slide forward and recline too, right? I know exactly what he's talking about; the contour of the back doesn't fit well. Been there...and that's in a Chrysler Concorde which is supposed to be a "grandma" car.
I actually just thought of one seat but may be too tall; look into some of the Caterpillar tractors or 18-wheeler seats. They have shock absorbers under the seat.

*sigh*. That's the only problem with the inexpensive honda crowd... people talking out of their...
Sit on a pillow? Ghetto rig seat rails? Change the seat belt landing points (over the hips, across the shoulders) so it's unsafe?
Not one real solution. =(
CRX's only ride as plush or as firm as the suspension is set for...

Hah, this is funny for me. One of my best friends last January was in a 4 wheeler accident. 5 broken vertabrae, one is replaced with an artificial one, 8 screws, two rods, and is just now walking without braces on his legs with the help of a walker. Still in a wheel chair for the majority. I have helped him into my car to just go cruise for a saturday a few times, and he absolutely loves my CRX Si seats. says his back doesnt bother him at all. My stiff shocks do, but I can soften those up which I do. It is wiered that he is so comfortable in my seat. Granted no one sat in it for 17 years as only my grandpa drove the car, so it is still very firm.
Another friend that has a habit of herniating (sp?) discs has a Recaro Speed in his teg, and says its the best he has tried for his problems.

Backs are incredibly unique and complicated... + height and weight of ppl. My girl is petite, 5'2 or so.
Well, I know a lot of girls that height have Corollas. Maybe later Corolla seats?
Just go to a used car lot and have her sit in a bunch of the cars. Maybe a Euro would be nice since quite a few of them have heated seats.

Now that's a nicer suggestion... But I was also hoping for some experience in terms of what to get for a proper install (safe/correct heights/mountings)

Go to a corbeau dealer or recaro or a shop that has a lot of aftermarket seats and have her sit in all of them. That is the only way SHE will find the right seat.
what you are asking is to fit a seat in the crx that was not meant to fit in the crx.
what kind of problems does this bring into play?
you WILL have to modify or custom fab rails for the seat
you WILL have improper height
and if you get into an accident and one of the contributing factors is that the seat was not made to fit the car and as a result it failed and caused injury or death.
then you will have to explain to your passengers parents/friends why you thought it was a good idea to slap in a seat that wasn't made for the car.
The comfiest out there IMO. It's like sitting inside of a hug. Go try out some Recaro SRD's (or their brother, SRII, which was in the JDM DC2 ITR) and see how you like them.
I think you're pretty much SOL with regard to OEM seats if she doesn't like the CRX Si seats. They're designed by Recaro and for comfort and style, they are only rivaled--in the OEM Honda seat world that is--by the del Sol seats. I think your best bet would be get to look at some Recaros...they're amazing. And maybe see if you can get a memory foam seat cover or something like that.
Good luck. My chick already digs the Si passenger seat, and I have two minty ones so I'm set for life

Hence, maintaining proper height, and doing a proper install. I'm not into ghetto rigging, and would spend what's necessary. =P
Aftermarket (non-ebay) quality seats (Recaro, Corbeau, etc) are acceptable too.

I'd imagine she'd be swimming in a Corbeau seat. I've sat in a few of them; I'm about 5'6 150lbs, and they're too large for me.
Right now I'm using a Memoryfab S68 seat; don't know if you'd be willing to spend that much but they are pretty comfy for me(and a hella supportive). The S58's are a tad smaller, but I got a deal on the S68.

How much are you looking to spend? You always could just take the seat out and have it redone at a shop with softer padding and still retain the original seat just recovered.
these seats were beyond comfortable...i had them for sale and no one wanted them...still for sale i guess....but they are very very comfy 2003 civic coupe seats
