Default Possible VTEC problem. Not Really sure.

Hey, im new here and i have a problem with my car. I dont know much about Hondas so im hoping to get some help. Its a 1998 4dr Accord with a 2.3 Liter VTec SOHC automatic trans. Just 2 days ago i changed out both gaskets on the Vtec solenoid because they were both leaking oil. I got the gasket that sits between the head and solenoid at the dealer but they told me the smaller one on the spool valve is not produced anywhere. So instead, i used black rtv to seal it. I applied the rtv and let it sit for about a day. I put the solenoid back on and changed my oil with a new filter and put in the correct amount of oil. I drove it all day but it acts funny when i push it just a bit hard. It starts hesitating or it seems like its bouncing off a rev limiter at about 4000 RPM. I posted the video on youtube so yall can see. The link is below.

Oh yeah, its an all stock motor and the check engine light is due to a egr valve.

Rev limiter @ 4,000 indicates limp mode because the VTEC solenoid is not working correctly. Sounds like your RTV squeezed into the solenoid ports when you tightened it down, clogging it up. I don't recall any parts in that area requiring a silicone sealant. Pull the solenoid off and scrape that silicone out if you still can.

I bet you forgot to use the gasket sealant.

I replaced the first gasket shown but the smaller one on the right is not produced. But that makes sense about the rtv messing up the plunger on the solenoid. Ima scrape that off and try to find that gasket somewhere else.

Yeah, i thought so. But the guy at the dealer said they dont produce it at all. But i could tell he was trying to hustle me into buying the whole solenoid because his only solution to fixing the oil leak was buying the solenoid. Ima try another honda dealership in town tomorrow.
