if they go by the letter with the rules and the tech inspector knows his stuff, they wont let you run.

if the battery is in the back, and no switch and not mounted properly, you wont pass tech.

Thats why we built the relocation kit that would change the battery to a smaller one and keep it in the front, where the weight is needed.

If its the Morosso battery box im thinking of (baby blue color). I dont think that box would pass tech, even if it had a kill switch. I learned that there was a change to NHRA rule 8.1...which now requires a METAL battery box when there is no firewall between the drivers compartment and battery. It has to be vented/sealed, with a minimum thickness (.040??) and bolted with 3/8 bolts.

I ended up getting a Taylor aluminum battery box available throught Summit, which passes rule 8.1. Its costs around 110-120$ with the required hardware.

yeah, The Moroso blue box is NHRA legal, because it's an NHRA approved poly, it doesn't have to be metal (per section 8.1)..But you have to have the kill switch anyways.

You can always hope you get an inspector that isn't very thorough, or just doesn't give a damn.

I would double check on the Poly Moroso box. Call up your local track. One thing I know, They wont let you run at our local NHRA Internatinal Raceway with that Poly box, unless you have your trunk sealed off with metal/aluminun (firewall) plus..offcourse with the kill switch.

Offcourse, It depends on the person conducting the Tech. Our tech guys are strict as all hell, but for good reasons.

They have the rules for a reason.

It says here:
http://moroso.com/catalog/categorydi...?catcode=42001
"Fully approved for racing by NHRA and IHRA" and
"Ideal for relocating a battery to the rear of any race, street, or show vehicle with or without a rear firewall"

And if you read section 8.1, it says that "in lieu of a rear firewall", you must have a .024" steel, .032" aluminum, or an NHRA approved poly box.

It's all good, the blue Moroso box is perfectly legal. Sometimes the people enforcing the rules don't know the rules any better than you do.

I know that the blue poly box was NOT legal for NIRA.. Which is the whole reason I bought the Taylor box (well, that and it looks better).

NIRA is now part of the NHRA.....
Its one sanctioning body making the rules. Imports and domestics. No difference. Try running your poly box....Good Luck!

Yeah I know Turbo Start is kinda pricey(200 bucks). I remeber seeing a 16 volt Optima battery, so there should be an Optima charger. Are you still running alternator on your racecar?

Viren, when u get that done, show the deepstage guys. I've been trying to talk Willie into doing that for a while now. They got that damper for the crank pulley, not sure if you've seen that yet. It looks nice, but seems like it could be even more of an improvement if it could be a damper without a pulley at all.

yeah, I know that. Which is why NHRA accepts the poly box, and NIRA didn't. The rules have changed dramatically.

Just like other stupid rules, like crews had to wear uniforms with collars in NIRA..
