take some time and look over the faq section. the b16 is the obvious choice stock vs stock, but there are some built d16s making over 500whp.....it all depends on your budget and goals.... and welcome to honda-tech...

the best stock engine you're going to find in a crx is the d16a6 sohc non-vtec engine which has mpfi. This is found in the Si, and is the best model to have. If you can't find an Si try to pick up an hf which atleast has mpfi to begin with. Later down the line if you decide you want more power it will be nice not having to dick with a dpfi to mpfi conversion.

B16 is a dual overhead cam engine, the D16 is a single overhead cam. With two cams, the engine has the opportunity to control intake with one cam and exhaust with the other, making the engine breath more efficiently and thus be more powerful.

It depends what you want really.
If you just want a daily with some kick. Then the d16, but if you want lot of power and plan on lots more, b series
If you want the most power, k series
the d seres will be the most reliable for you rite now though.
and you can boost it and make good power.
so really, you sort of have t tell us your plans, goals, and budget, for us to help you better, then you do your own research after that

a Turbo kit for your d16 will be faster than a swap, and reliable if you don't run allot of lbs of boost.
/But the d16 with bot ons would also be good

do yourself a big favor.if you dont know much about this stuff right now, dont buy a car that has been modified.id say 75% of what people will sell you is going to have some kind of issue.then your really screwed because you know nothing about the work that has been done.start from the begining.and learn.any crx is a good one.watch for rust and past body damage.

trick would be to buy a clean one that hasnt been abused, prefferably owned by a middle aged guy who has done all the maintainance at honda LOL. pretty much any crx trim level can be modified to what you want, its been done on here.

slow turn clicking-axles.high speed humming-wheel bearings.high speed vibration-wheel balancing.low speed brake vibration-rotors warped.look for blue smoke at start up and acceleration.let car idle to operating temp and make sure it doesn't overheat.before you even take a car out for a drive or start it.check all the fluids.and look under it for leaks.

motor rev's when u r trying to move...
base. if ur going 45 and hit the gas and the motor revs faster then ur r picking up speed then it needs a clutch ( that will be the easy way for u to tell )
