obd2 EK only starts with obd1 ecu ?
i have an ek with a b16a2 swap. everything on the car is obd2. obd2 injectors, obd2 alt., obd2 distributor. for tuning purposes i bought a stepdown to obd1 and a p28. no problems there. but when i try to use a p2t or p2e ecu, the car will crank forever and not start. when i tryed plugging in an obd2 type r ecu, one of the plugs didnt match.
what could be the problem?

yea i know that. the kid i bought the harness from claims that it was a 2000 si harness (obd2b) so i dont seewhy the p2t and p2e ecu's dont work.
i guess i answered half my own question since type r ecu's are obd2a ?

The most OBD2a and OBD2b ECUs has a Immobilizer System installed.
Maybe the ECUs you tried are not programmed to your Key or does not match the Immobilizer System of the car. If so, you need to let the ECU programm to match your Key or remove the Immobilizer System from the ECU.

I just can say the "most". Here even the EJ9 (1.4 SOHC, 75HP) Civics are equipped with a IMMO System. Maybe it's different in your location.
But it wouldn't waste too much time to open then ECU's top cover and look inside for a IMMObilizer Board (you can find more information on my site (see my signature) for what you have to look for). If you not sure about, just send me pictures of the ECU (of course with cover removed), so i can tell you if there is a IMMO system installed or not.

never knew about that. idk if they have that here in the states but it doesnt hurt to look.
you mentioned why not continue to use the stepdown to obd1 and p28? because i need to be obd2 in order to pass inspection

im not sure how emissions work with obd2. idk how the obd scanner will work trying to read the obd1 ecu when they plug it in, or if it even matters. anyone care to jump in? i would think as long as there is no check engine it should be fine. you can just throw the stock b16 map on the p28.
here in the states only 99-00 Itr has immobilizer on the p73 ecu. How many plugs on the ecu side does your harness have?? i think the 96-98 only has 3 plugs and the 99-00 engine harness has 4 plugs 3 plus a green plug
I have the same problem on my ek, but i figured out that i have a ex harness. The harness i have has a 2 wire iacv plug, which is what ppl use when doing a b series, vtec swap. The stock ecu wont let the car start cuz its trying to read the original 3 wire connector on the stock harness, but when i use my obd1 it runs like new. Check to see if its throwing a p1509 code? if so then your in the same boat with me.
hmm im not exactly sure how many plugs i have because i put my car away for the winter. but when i look ill reply back. i think my harness had 3 plugs though.for the record, is their a obd2b-obd2a conversion harness in existance?
