Default Trouble removing camshaft holders

im in the process of removing the head on my 1989 2.0 SI to replace the head gasket/inspecthead for warpage (ran car without coolant for a while don't ask) and the head gasket holders are stick solid, I've tried banging them gently and getting at them with a screw driver but they are stuck solid ...any ideas? also while removing the sprockets the little piece of metal that aligns the cam and sprockets and locks them in place fell down into the bottom of the timing belt cover .. will this cause problems (of course im going to put another one on) like being jammed in the belt/gears?
