Icon2 Piston removal

Hey,

Im in the process of removing my pistons and replacing pistons and rings, and borings, etc.

Haynes doesnt tell me how to remove the girdle, in fact it doesnt even mention the girdle being in the way of the crankshaft.

So my question is how do I remove the girdle. I already took out the 6 or 8 bolts that hold it onto the block. Are there any other bolts im missing?

Any help is appreciated.

What engine do you have?

Are you trying to take the pistons out, or the crank?

You should remove the head if you taking out the pistons, the cyl, on the bottom of the block are not hoaned all the way through. Plus even if they were it would be pritty hard to put new one in....

I am aware that the cylinder walls are tapered.

The head is not attached to the block, I should have stated that in the first post.

The block is just hanging out on an engine stand waiting for the pistons to be removed.

If you can access the rod bolts from the bottom of the engine just simply loosen them w/ the crank still in the block and push through the top of the block. make sure you match the rod cap to the rod. Also make sure you reem the top of the cylinders before you remove the pistons or you could damage the rings when removing or installing the rings and pistons

^^^^^^^

Haynes are good for underwear and socks... stick to Helm's for service manuals.

I know, I cannot stand Haynes. There are at least 10 instances in Haynes where they have a picture, in the picture is a Toyota engine.

There used to be a link in the FAQ for downloadable HELMs manuals but it is no longer there.

Anyone have said link?

just keep taping it from side to side with a hammer[pastic, rubber, brass] until you see it raising up. it has dowel pins holding it down

I didnt have a rubber hammer or mallet. But turning the hammer around and using the rubber wrapped handle worked wonders!

Yea I had numbered baggies all ready to go for when I started pulling out the pistons.

Now its on to the machine shop! Thanks for the help
