I have recently had a problem burning mp3's and playing them in my SI. I have the navigation system. I have a CD case in the car with nothing but mp3 cds (over 100) that will play - but anything new that I burn does not work.

I've tried two different types of blank media (CompUSA & Memorex CD-R's). I've tried two different burners (desktop & laptop). I have my mp3's stored on an external harddrive enclosure (the IDE drive came out of my old computer and I used a Rosewell External enclosure)...I thought maybe the external enclosure was the problem however I just downloaded 3 songs on my laptop and tried to burn them to CD as well with the same Focus Error problem.

I'm using Windows to burn the mp3's - the same method as the CD's in my car that work.

Any ideas/advice?

i didnt have your problem. but my cd player wouldnt eject my disc. i brought it to honda they replaced all the parts with new ones..everything was under warranty...

or

i have an mp3 cd too some folders will play some wont.. i never looked in to it...but i figured its just the format they're in or how they were burned.
if you use a program to burn your cd's...try making a file disc when the pop up of options come up isntead of opening your burning programs. it should say something like "open writable cd folder using windows explorer" when you put in the blank disc

I don't know much about cars but I can answer this question. You stated that you were using Windows to burn the mp3 CDs so I am just assuming that you are using the built-in burning options for either Windows XP or Windows Vista (please provide the software you are using if I am wrong).

This is more than likely the cause of your problem. The built-in burning capabilities of either OS are buggy at best. I once burned 10 DVD+R discs in Windows Vista only to discover that the discs weren't really burned (even though I followed the procedures) and I lost all that content.

Use an actual program to burn your mp3 CDs. I wouldn't use Windows Media Player but rather you should go with something else. Roxio, Nero, and iTunes (iTunes is free) will all produce discs that are compatible with your car. The neat thing about iTunes is that you can make a playlist of mp3 files, burn an mp3 CD, and your car will play the tracks in the same order they are stored in the playlist. I always turn to iTunes for my mp3 CD needs due to its playlists features. There are ways to make Nero do this but I don't want to go through the trouble when iTunes does the job.

 

Appreciate the help guys. I finally got it working. I'm new to Vista - and there's a formatting function that vista does when you put in a blank disk - it's screwing up the CD's. Trying to find software for this 64 bit OS is pretty tough. However after looking around on the laptop (just bought it) Toshiba has included CD burning software. I burnt a CD and the music played soon after...

Just a word to the wise for you Vista users. Do not let Vista format the blank CD's.
