problem with eclipse cd player
I have a eclipse 5504 cdplayer....recently its been having trouble playing my cds mostly the cd-r...dont say it is not a compatible disk bc disks that used to play in there wont read all of the sudden...it shows info3 on the screen. for example i was playing a cd last night and now today it wont read it, it seems to play non cd-r like a regular rap cd for example...also this one cd-r did play last night, but not this morning..but now this evening it played it...wth....ive tried resetting it via the reset button, and ive also tried using a cleaning disk at a last resort. is this a known problem or should i just buy a new flippin head unit..please shoot some info
the radio is how old? about 4-5 yrs? its time to buy a new headunit. Id suggest buying a 2004 model eclipse such as a 5444 if u can still find one. We still have a 5506 lying around if u like ur style, its $900 retail I can sell it for cost $550.
I really dont like eclipses headunits this year and that is all I really sold last yr was eclipse radios, I was very disappointed in them. their sprks amps and sub however are justa as good if not better than last yr.

**** for 600 bones it should last more than that..yeah i dont like the new ones looks..i might buy alpine 9835..no used **** tho...i still gotta do some more tests tho because it just doesnt seem right..bc some cd-r will read fine..
maybe something minimal did happen to the cd player and just wont read a certain disk thats is recorded at a certain speed? or some ****...it now seems like its just one brand of cd-r that it wont read..BUT whats wack is it used to read/play fine
also is the 5506 new or used bc that is also a 5year old model..isnt that the same thing as mine but just with 8V preouts...im afraid that might be too high for the amps im currently runnin
the reason i would want the 9835 is because the 9855 i dont know about that glilde thing. first i dont like gliders on laptops and that new design may not be refined yet

the 5506 is new in box. the ammount of $$ u spend on a radio doesnt dictate how long it will last, Im sure u know that. alpine is overpriced crap. we used to carry it until we started running into problems with them not repairing stuff under warranty. If u buy an alpine with a measly 1 yr warranty and it breaks dont expect them to fix it for free. at least an eclipse has a 3 yr warranty
alpine is crap..i thought the hu were decent...ive never owned one tho..but i have to do some more tests on this hu, it may just be it stopped liking a particular brand of cd-r

LMAO... "Alpine is overpriced crap" That coming from someone trying to unload an Eclipse 5506, I have 1 or 2 of them laying around my shop, and a few Eclipse amps that were all sent back for warranty, they are all "new in a box also" talk about crap, I don't understand how a company that makes such good speakers, can come up with HUs and amps with so many problems, as for the 3 year warranty, it takes damn near that long to get stuff back from warranty, we have dropped Eclipse for that reason

Im not trying to "unload" a 5506 I dont expect anyone to buy something from me online, I was simply making a point that they are still out there.
Pull up the stats on an alpine and compare it to a comparably priced eclipse and see what u get.
there are plenty of brands out there that I dont sell that I would like to, it is just that this shop had a lot of bad experiences with alpine. Id love to carry phoenix gold again, as well as zapco, and focal.

sounds about half as bad as alpine has been for us. I have only had one eclipse amp go bad in the last 2 yrs and all of the alpine amps we had left (about 6) have had issues when they claim nothing was wrong.
the only time alpine wants to find something wrong with the stuff is when we are willing to pay for it out of pocket, the same product they refused to fix under warranty.
