how to get better gas mileage
what i do is go strait from 2nd to 5th when im on a main road and not driving fast. just remember to downshift if you need to speed up or the car seems to be struggling, cause then your just losing mpg. Where i live on the main road through town i go strait to 4th or 5th and cruise at 40. it works goooood. keep in mind i drive a d series and the gear ratios are different so u have to modify my suggestion if your rocking a b16

bigger wheels longer tranny , either the hx or vx for single cams or the ls tranny for dual cams. maintenance. shifting from 2nd to 5 won't help that much, shifting betweeon 2-3k rpm will help out. no jack rabbit starts, and don't let your car sit and warm up. you don't have to do it. its not feasible.
change fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, distributor, tires properly inflated, alignment, dont drive like u stole it, going 65 mph and goin 80 mph make a big difference in gas mileage
go to a place where the can tuner your stock ecu and have them change your fuel map for better fuel economy and u should be fine. ur car will have shitty hp and torque but u will hardly have to fill up ur car.
Listen to these guys and start with a tune up, and one of ths biggest things to get better mileage would be to change your driving style.
Slow down, pump your tires to max side wall pressure, use 0w30 synthetic oil next time you change your oil, don't warm your car up it s bad for your engine to just let it sit while it has load being put on it, just get in and go but drive slowly and that will work best.
shift at 2-2200 rpms, accelerate briskly keep your top speed down.

When the gas prices was almost $4, this was what I had done to get 55mpg on my vx
Shift between 2-2.5K
Coast as much as possible
Leave plenty of room from the car in front, so you can coast to a stop
On thruway, drives around 70 mph and draft as much.
For the car:
Get a tune-up.
Got me some very low resistance tires. Michelin's tires from costco ($200 installed on my 13" rims with road hazard) So far it is a great set of tires. Very smooth on the thruway.
But now, I get around 46 mpg going between thruway at 75-90(only when you got a bait in the front and drives 5 seconds behind)
