Default obd1 b16a. dizzy blew 2nd coil today.

this is the second coil i went through. last night my main fuse popped(60A fuse). fixed that this morning. then my car throws a CEL #15 for ignition output signal. so i changed the coil out this afternoon. my car turned over 1st try, ran fine for 10 minutes then it just turned off and threw another CEL 15... car will not run now. sounds like crap when you try to start it. timing is dead on as well. does anyone know what can cause this?

bad ignitor??

Yeah, your coil is probably overheating, which means the dwell is too long. Dwell is controlled by the ECM and ignitor. Check your wiring, if everything looks good go for a new distributor assembly. On second thought, the condenser could cause a similar problem if it is shorted, and it is difficult to test. A new distributor will come with a new condenser.

thanks. its a dist. from autozone and the coil on this dizzy looked old and chipped. the dizzy didnt look fresh at all for being re manufactured. i could tell it was gonna be problematic when i first looked at it. at least i got a lifetime warranty on these expensive pieces of junk. im throwing my msd in as soon as i order my cap and wires for it. honda dizzies are the weakest link on the whole b- series motor IMO...

hopefully the new replacement dizzy i get tomorrow will yield better luck.

i got my new dizzy put it in last night, set the ignition timing and it ran just fine.
this dizzy actually looked bnib, unlike the other one that looked like someone exchanged their messed up fried dizzy for a brand new one and put the old one in the box and back to the store to get a refund.... it was crispy.

a whole msd setup for b series: the box, wires, cap & rotor kit an external coil usually runs someone about $250-350 depending on how good of prices you can get. if you want 2-Step add another $70-90 for that. 2-step is pretty nice for getting consistent hole-shots.
