intake manifold problems
alright so i decided to go ahead and change my manifold on my b18a1 block to a b18b1 manifold b/c a friend of mine said he had one available and Ive been told it was interchangable..so my friend of mine came over and went ahead and put it on for me..well we had the old one off and the new one on in no time...went to start it up and idling very high and surging...come to find out one problem was that i still had my sohc throttle cable so i know that could be one of my problems..another problem i had is coolant was leaking from some random spot and my boy blocked off the lines goin to the breather box.I also have a some sensor on drivers side of the maniold towards the the back end that is not connected either...i pretty much have a mess on my hands that my buddy pretty much up and left me hanging to dry to figure out on my own...Def need this car up and running...If anybody has any input besides NEVER LET FRIENDS WORK OTHER FRIENDS CARS type **** that would be helpful. IF pictures are needed I will definately take some..
I'm guessing this is in an EF, based on your avatar. So, here goes...
The black sensor on the back of the b1 manifold is a duplicate of one oyu have on your manifold. Just plug the vacuum port below it if you're not using it.
The surging could be from the coolant loss when you pulled the old intake manifold. Make sure all vacuum lines are connected. I would also recommend taking the manifold back off and making sure that every last spec of the old gasket is gone. Any little spec will make for a vacuum leak at the head.
As for the throttle cable, as long as the throttle plate is closing all the way, it won't effect the idle. It's been years, so I don't remember, but you might need a teg throttle cable.
What did you mean about the breather box? He eliminated the pcv valve?

thanks alot..i have a eg chasis btw...i gotta update the avatar..the breather box i have is on the back of the block itself on the bottom..it has 2 holes that has one line going to the motor and the other to the bottom side of the manifold..if u look under a b18a1 manifold u will notice a hard line that goes into the breather box..this manifold that i recieved off the b18b1 also..i accidently snapped this thing trying to remove it..so I def have to get another one...Ima defiantely take the whole manifold off again and start fresh...ima drain all coolant grab another grommet to replace the one i got or just make one of my own. i also got another intake manifold gasket and i also have MR gasket sheets i got from the speed shop that i can use to replace the one on my tb..hopefully all this should solve my problem...
