LS/VTEC turbo question...Help!
I'm finalizing a sale tomorrow for my civic, so i'm taking the 4700 and considering an LS/VTEC EG hatch...
here's a description of the motor
GSR head, LS bottom end
Forged pistons making 9.0:1 compression
stock LS rods with ARP rod bolts
stock GSR fuel pump and 240cc injectors
T3/T4 Turbonetics turbo, 57 a/r intake side
aftermarket block girdle and block guard
he's claiming that with the turbo installed and tuned, the setup can safely make 350 wheel...
i'm not quite sure, though...here are my questions...
is 350 whp realistic with dyno tuning on stock LS rods with ARP bolts?
and on 240cc injectors and a GSR fuel pump?
i'm not sure, this would be my first turbo setup..
this motor only has 5000 miles on it...
if not, what is the realistic horsepower limit on this setup with a good, daily-driven tune? good as in, not dangerous...
should i even bother with this car?

i'd pass. i have no idea why anyone would do forged pistons on stock rods for a turbo setup. also, you also have no idea who put the engine together and what the clearances are. stock fuel pump and stock injectors? yikes. better to build your own setup rather than inherit someone else's project.
well, he's saying he's a honda technician, and he did the rebuild himself...
he claims that LS rods are plenty strong for 350 wheel?
anyway...i guess if he's really a tech, he'd know the clearances pretty well...
but, i don't want junk...

Rods are fine stock but you are going to limit what the pistons can actually do making more then 350plus. Block guards are a waste of money and you will not make 350 on stock injectors and fuel pump.
How much boost has he been running? what is it tuned on? or is he running an FMU?
Do a compression check before buying and check the spark plugs for damage.

Not as it sits it won't make 350 whp. 240cc injectors simply won't go anywhere near that, even with jacking up the fuel pressure (something you normally don't do unless you have to). A reliable 350 whp can be made on that engine though, but you'll definitely want a set of 750cc injectors (leaves room for more) and a 255lph pump.
LS rods have stretched at high rpm even with the rod bolts (as per DonF and something we sort of found out this year in our CRX). Up to 8500 rpm, they're fine. Any where above that, they can last for three years or for three months. Use them at your own discretion.

the turbo has not been installed...
the car comes with Hondata s300...
i would probably stop boosting at the 260 wheel mark...350 is a little crazy for me personally..
i was pretty sure that the car would need injectors and a fuel pump...
350whp on 240cc injectors: epic fail

If the turbo has not been installed it sounds like a solid platform to me if the compression checks out ok.
Get RC 550s or higher and a walbro fuel pump then install the turbo kit.
Is the car for sale on here?

too much for me...
anyway, if the compression sucks, i've got a bone-stock GSR teg in my sights...
anyone have any 440cc injectors for sale?

If the $4,700 is for the engine and a car to put it in, I'd be looking to do a "D series, 10 pounds will turn ya out" setup. If the $4,700 is the budget for just the engine, you'd be better off building your own.
