hey so i was painting my car with duplicolor paint. the filter is like a one time use one from harbor freight and ive used it twice. so i tried spraying some basecoat and it came out webby. what happened? my guess its the filter
Buy a good air dryer/filter. It'll be a lot cheaper in the long run. You probably got moisture in the line. Your gun adjustments could be off, nozzle could be obstructed. Are you cleaning your gun with lacquer thinner after each use? Make sure the nozzle and pins are clean, if its gravity fed pour lacquer thinner in the cup and run it through the gun, then disassemble it and clean thoroughly. Did the base come out webby or the clear? Pictures???
You talking about the air line filter or the actual paint filter in the gun itself? I just use 2 of the air inline filters every time I spray and they usually seem to keep the moisture down alot. That and I make sure to always drain my compressor well before painting anything.
if your using the lacquer based duplicolor you cant use mineral spirits, need to clean your gun with lacquer thinner. I would bet thats your problem.

well i dont want to buy new paint. and its been spraying good the whole, what type of lacquer should i use. would i use that to clean to the car before painting
He didn't say he was reducing the paint with mineral spirits, he's cleaning the gun with it, which can still have bad effects. Also make sure all of your mixing ratios are being used correctly.
If he is cleaning the gun with it most likely there is still some in there when he adds paint, I would aslo bet he wiped the car down with it also. The paint hes using comes premixed but you can add lacquer thinner if your having problems spraying it. You really should wipe the car down with a good automotive wax and grease remover.
well mineral spirits and Urethane paint thinner do not mix well. They are both diff chemical compositions & weights and will seperate. Clean your gun with cheap urethane paint thinner or gun wash. Dont use mineral spirits period.

i didn't do any body work. its almost been pretty straight besides a bump on the hood and weather stripping. ive only painted it. ill post some pics today.
I layed down some primer last week on my Supra 1:1 Duplicolor primer and Duplicolor Reducer... with an inline filter.. Half of it came out webby/dry/think like this... I think I need more reducer? I messed with the settings on the gun alot and it all stayed the same...
I sanded it all down though and I got it to be nice and smooth just like it should look... but is it sticking the same?
