After only helping with mine, I didn't think it was too hard. I had no previous experience working on cars really either. If you have the tools (cherry picker, etc) it shouldnt be that bad with a friend or two to help. I think that hardest part would be troubleshooting if the motor is running a little crappy.

if doing it yourself make sure you have a place the car can sit for awhile. when you know what you're doing it can be done in a weekend..if you're stumbling through it like i did it can take a bit longer..

not really hard, just have to make sure you have all the right parts ready to go. the little parts slowed me down like hoses and missing vacuum lines. 2 days for my first swap with help of 2 friends.
i did my swap in 12 hours. i already pulled the old motor. it's not that hard.. just make sure you really dent the framerail good.. or else the alternator pulley will hit.. i was smashing mine really good but when i put my motor in.. it was hitting so i removed the alternator and smashed it more.
the alternator removal and not following directions which made me remove the rear mount to install the tranny bracket and troubleshooting my motor was all included in the 12 hours.
It's also a "direct swap" sort of.. since everything bolts up.
my spark plug vallies were filled with water and grounding out the plug wires.. dried it up and engine started right up.

You don't need a cherry picker. You can drop the motor out the bottom.

on a scale of 1-10.. with the use of Hasport stuff (harness,mounts,a/c bracket) it is a 6 to 8.. with use of hasport stuff. 5 and below.
Don't forget to adjust timing right, adjust your valves and if you decide to take the head apart.. check valve guide tolerances. Mine were shot.. I had to get new guides. Good luck with the vacuum lines.

make sure you have EVERY part ..having all of the parts will save a lot of time. and with the hasport mount kit and wire harness.. its simple. goodluck
sweet, I want to do one hopefully next summer or over the winter next year...after I graduate from college, I'll most likely be living in the Phoenix, AZ area so if any of you guys are from around there...let me know.

if you'd like me to email you a complete list of all that i used, let me know. i did mine myself in my garage, with no power tools what-so-ever.
.. I would love a list... im about to do a b16a swap into a 89 Crx Si.. first swap ever.. all info would be helpfull thanks man.... if u want to email it.. which would be great .. its bobbyboombotz69@aol.com
no problem, but my list includes things like new radiator, and many other odds'n ends. i may do a little write up on it, too.
Rexman could u sent me a copy of the list too?

Just whatever you do don't plan on taking a day or even a week to do the swap. Trust me. My brother thought it would take a week at the most. We got all the parts (we thought) and did the swap. First we banged out the frame for the alt. pully, not enough so the motor was pulled back out, then the int. shaft was from a sir. Won't work, so a 90-93 teg was ordered, then we had to get the right axles, then the wiring, then the little problems like the rear mount bolts, fixing the exhaust to line up right, tdc wires reversed, finding a upper radiatior hose, ect. The little things like that that you don't expect add up and it took a month. Granted his was a dx before and the wiring was the hard part but still you never know. My last swap took 7 hours before this one so it can go either way. It turned out alright though...
i would be interested as well, if u get around to writing something up, that will be my first swap as well, b16a1 into a 89 si. thanks a lot

It's not overly difficult. If you want to see just how long and how many headaches it can create if you don't really know what you're doing read my website - the hybrid corner - and the swap journal there
If I tried it again I could probably do it MUCH faster.

I don't really have any questions except I really don't want to screw around with the timing since I don't have the gun!
Another thing the AC
I need AC and the thing is I need to get the refrigerant out of the car first right before i do the swap cuz I know the hoses from the ac need to come off
it's r12 btw

It's pretty easy.....probably take you a couple of days to do if you have all of the parts and it's your first time. Feel free to peruse my CRX Project pictures for "an idea" of what's involved....

I just want to be the one that says.
It's easier if you drop the motor out from the bottom, no cherry picker needed.
2 jacks, carboard, 2 jackstands.
