Any automotive machine shop can do micropolishing (mine quoted $35), not sure about knife-edging...

i used to always plan to do alot of crank work... however, recently i heard stock cranks can go a long long long long long long way in terms of speed

I have heard that there is no gain in performance if you knife edge a Honda crank since they don't go throw the oil like on some domestics. I still see people spend the money and get it done for some reason. It is less rotating mass, but why not just get a lightened flywheel?

Thanks, J

The only thing you should do to a honda crank shaft is balance and micro-polish.

I have read opinions of people way smarter than me that say knifing
a crank makes it less structurally sound.

Yes, it does become less structurally sound... but most people that do this are full race... I wouldn't have it done on a street car.

Micro polishing just gives the journals a smoother surface for the bearings to contact... less bearing wear.

Most machine shops do both of these procedures.

Yeah and so are the pistons but they are still off.

pistons are different... they dont come in a 4 pack so you could be purchasing pistons made a year or so apart... either way... balancing pistons and rods is a good idea

And don't forget the comfort of knowing the crank is balanced.

You can always have them check it and see if it needs it.
