oke guys i got a sweet deal on a b16a clean as hell tho guy used parts to make a lsvtec motor so i got a clean b16a bottem end and it has p30 pistons how can i tell what year the block is o also the motor has no vin near the oil pan and there is o threads in the holes so it never had a vin from factory only has block s/n i wanted to know i got 2 motors i got a 99 sir motor b16a2 ad i got parts to make a new b16a motor what motors better also got a integra b16 head going on the b16a block i got what is better ps im depateing on ctr pistons in either motor need to know what motor will be safer
If its a jdm b16a it's not going to have a vin plate. Also the stamp for the year of the motor is on the head as far as i know.
The bottom ends of the b16a and b16a2 are relatavily the same. Its the head that makes the difference in power. You can mount whatever b seres vtec head you want on the b16
the gen.2 sir b16a has a little different compression rate which is why it has 170hp in comparison to the 160hp us b16a2 and gen.1 b16a

USDM B16A has pistons with 10.2:1 compression and will be stamped B16A_
JDM B16A 2nd gen has P30 pistons, 10.4:1 compression, stamped only B16A
otherwise, they are identical

both bottom ends will work the same for a pct/ctr piston setup.
I've had 2 buddies that did the pct/ctr piston in a b16, pretty good gains. Not sure if you know but you'll have to modify your b16 rods, like shave a bit off the small end of the rod to fit the ctr piston.
These bad boys are nice
hey i can ship these out with the valve cover too if you like :p

the last generation of b16(a2) comes with oil squirters that cool the piston.
the is what you dont get from the b16a.
this is a trivial difference and you wont know the difference between the two otherwise.

you know what now that i think of it your all right.
i was thinking of the diff between a vtec block and an ls block....
sorry.
running type r pistons in your b16 will wake your motor right up...
