hey guys, i have heard that the automatic transmission of honda is not that great, is it true? and some people suggest me to use the honda transmission fluid, but not use transimission fluid from the thirdparty, can i use the Mobile transimmison fluid? by the way, how much does it cost for changing transmission fluid? what about engine oil? i called different dealer ssome said it is $149 for transmission fluid, and 120 for engine oil, other said it is $70 for transimission fluid, and $30 for engine oil, it is a big difference, by the way, usually when i wake up and i put my key into my cars's "ingintion" and try to start up my car, i push the key and then turn clockwise to the end, and my car can't start up, and i just heard some noise from the hood. however, if i turn my key to the last second end( where u can see how much gasoline, car's temperature, and batteray, so on in the dashboard, confused?) and wait for a few seconds and then i turn to the end, and my car can start up. is it normal? thanks

 

Not normal, but sorry I don't know the fix. Dealers are always way too much for basic maintenance. They told me once that I needed a cabin air filter for $60. It was $23 at the parts store and took literally less than two minutes. $120 for oil better be some good stuff that we haven't heard of before, that is so new it can also make you loose weight and become smarter. $30 is more normal. As for the tranny fluid, It can all depend if you want a flush and fill with filter, or just a pan drain and fill with filter.

 

ok if u don't want 2 spend that much money this what u need

*6 quater's of motor oil
*oil filter
*drain plug washer
*4 quater of auto trans fluid ether honda or dextron 3
*a draing plug washer 2
so whats u is jack the car up find some container 2 drain the oil then use a 17 mm wrench loose the plug and and wait, after that loose the oil filter with a oil wrench wait until there is no more oil then u can clean the area with a rag and replace the oil filter
for the trans you would need a rachet loose the plug with the rachet wait until all the oil gone and then put it back but don forget to replace the washers

when ur going 2 add oil u put 5.5 quaters of motor oil, and for the trans u would use only 3.5
quater of trans oil and put the oil cap and the dipstick for the trans and start the car let run for like 10 seconds and turn off and check the oil if i need more add some.

is not that hard 2 do it u can do it ur self and about the noise that u say can u describe what kind of noise it is ?

 

The $70 for a transmission fluid change, and $30 for engine oil and filter sounds good. I'd go that route. The starting problem sounds like the fuel pressure regulator, which is very common on the V6 cars. If you wait, with the key on, it gives the fuel pump time to pressure up the fuel system, and the engine starts easier. Get the shop to check the starting problem when you bring it in for the oil change.

 

Honda states that you can use dextron 3 in an emergency but to remove it as soon as possible. Using non honda fluid in the auto = you are asking for trouble.......

isn't there a tsb on the fuel regulartor for the accord v6?

 

My 07 V6 Accord only takes 5 quarts of oil on an engine oil change. One big jug of Mobil 1 does it just fine.

Don't do a transmission flush, it usually loosens up sediment that you DON'T want floating around.

Just do a simple drain and fill, takes 3-4 quarts, and only use Honda fluid. The only tricky part is getting a good funnel to fill it back up.

 

4.5 quarts on the honda v6(with the filter change)... plus or minus a little depending how long you let it drain.

 

I know this is a old thread but I read something on here about the fuel pressure regulator on v6 accords being a problem? I ask because my dad has a 04 accord v6 with 89,000 miles on it, it runs well and has never let us down besides the engine mounts and high pressure pwr steering line and the starter and the power steering makes noise when cold haha..
But the problem is sometimes the car starts on the first hit of the starter and other times it takes like 5 hits to get it to start..it's weird..do you guys have any idea what this could be??

 

Sounds like either the fuel pressure regulator, or fuel pump relay (there may have been a recall for the relay in 04 models).

This could be the source of your power steering noise
