Default shortening a shifter

I just bought a Short Throw Shifter for my Rex (Skunk2), its amazing. the throws are so short. But its just a tad to tall in my opinion. Anyone thought about maybe hack sawing it down and re welding it on? LMK what u guys think.

There's no point. It's about .25" taller than the stock shifter (at least for EGs), and there's going to be zero benefits to cutting it and rewelding it. In fact, it'll most likely create a weak point for it to break down the line. Don't complain about tall; I have the FLP shifter in my car lol

I have a G-force shifter in my car and I hated the way it sat. Too tall for my liking(very picky).

what I did was put it on the lathe to shave it down to where I wanted the treads to end cut off the old threads and made new threads!

do not cut and weld. Take it to a place that does dies and maybe they can do it the right way! If not you could send it to me so I can do it!

I don't see what the problem is with welding a shifter. I welded mine in four places over a year ago and it's held up perfectly fine. I extended mine FLP style and then added some to the bottom to retain stock throw:

Cut and welding does take out some of the strength that the shifter once did have. At the same time if done well it shouldn't pose a problem since your not throwing a brick at it I hope!

Thats what I did with my B&M, Well I didnt put it on lathe but I cut it down to where it felt comfortable to me and then rethreaded with a die.. Simple

i took a stock civic shifter and cut out about an inch and a half and rewelded the threaded end to the rest of the shifter and came out GREAT, very strong thick steel....actually my favorite shifter ive ever used

since i've owned an FLP shifter since 07 i can honestly say short shifter are complete **** and do nothing positive for the car. my FLP throws are design to retain the stock distance BUT the added height shortens the movement that you actually feel.

buy a FLP and compare it to your short shifter

Ha beat me to it. if youre shifting hard enough to break a shifter, Id hate to see what kinda condition your tranny is in.

Technically if a shifter is welded (Correct) It will break next to the weld.. not on it. Generally the tensile strength of the filler material is stronger than the base metal.. I've done a couple with no problems.. Just don't get a welder thats a dumbass
