help - idiot froze his engine
thats right, I managed to not have enough antifreeze in my system and froze everything. When I first started the engine i heard crunching, but it stopped pretty quickly so i didn't think too much of it. Then the idle started freaking out so i popped the hood started looking around, grabbed the upper rad hose to see how warm it was and it was umm.. SOLID!
Turn the engine off and found very watered down coolant pouring out the back of the engine - first thought: engine is done, cracked the block. After closer inspection I found that it is pouring out a hole that is very close (maybe on) the water pump. It feels round, smaller than my finger - idk what it is. Maybe one of the weeping holes for the waterpump?
Is there any hope?

The pressure test and the subsiquent startup will tell if you dodged the bullet.

Lol I did that once about 5yrs ago, I just put that car in the garage with a space heater blowing on it. Thawed everything out, replaced the water with 50/50 coolant and was back on the road same day.
I don't know much about cold climates, but sounds like you might have just popped out a freeze plug on the back of the block.
EDIT: After reading your second paragraph, it IS a freeze plug that was doing it's job. Get the car towed to a shop and have them replace it and fill up with 50/50 antifreeze, then pray that your water pump is OK.

bad news - I think the coolant is coming from here:

(pic from water pump how-to thread) It is a maintenance hole for locking the balance shaft.
NOT good. Any ideas how coolant could be FLOWING out of this hole?

Sounds like you broke the water pump and now water is leaking out the weep hole from the back of the engine on the pump. Would make sense: Frozen water, water pump trying to spin, but shaft breaks and water thaws a little causing it to leak out of the weep hole excessively.
yeah thats what I was thinking/hoping at first. But after looking at it closer in daylight, the hole is too big to be a weep hole. And I think its too far to the right (as in on the block, not the water pump)
Anyone know what the internals are like in this area or what could cause this leak?

You will find Freeze plugs on most domestic engines.
True, they start at the engine plant as core plugs (to evacuate the sand casting material) but are then machined to accept freeze-out plugs to allow some expansion as the water freezes.
Honda uses two on the F' engine. Both threaded and not ment to be taken out.
If he's dealing with something other than the weep hole, most likely the block's cracked

Freeze plug, core plug, frost plug, expansion plug... same difference. Under certain conditions (as in the OP's block being frozen) they perform the same function.
