HELP !!! open valves question
i took off my cylinder head off my d16z6 to do a head gasket. when i took it off i notice 4 valves were open and the rest were close. my friend said i drop the valves caused by over reving or misshifting. i dont know what to do can this problem be fix or do i have to buy a new head. another friend of mines said it was fine . he said i have to take of the cams to close the valves.please help
Never messed with the sohc's but it sounds like you have bent valves. Can you take your head off without pulling the cam, if so a few valves can be down. Why did you take the head off, did it break a timing belt or something?
i didnt take the cams off just the head. and the car was running before i took the head off. i took it off because i had a leak and replaced the gasket because my car wouldnt start one day .and i check the spark plugs i think it was wet with gas or oil. i have a turbo d16z6
By the sounds of it I would say that because you didn't take your cam off those valves are in the open position. I bet the cylinder that those valves correspond to is at the bottom of it's stroke. However if those two conditions are not as described then you may have a problem. If the car was running fine previously don't worry about it. Your not starting problem probably has nothing to do with the valves in this scenario.
