Default Knocking problem

My y8 threw a rod a long time. Just got done rebuilding a y7 to put in. Put it in and it's knocking. I'm using the y8 head. All internals are torqued down properly. The crank is fine. Rings are good. Rods are straight. Anybody have an idea as to what is going on?

Haven't actually tried that. Having some problems with the radiator so i turn it off when the temp gets high.

But what are you thinking?

He is probably asking about the cold because he thinks it could be "piston slap".

This happens when there is horizontal movement of the piston as it travels vertically up and down the bore. It is caused by worn internals, and you can usually see marks on the cylinder wall where the knocking occurs. Once the engine heats up, the piston changes shape slightly, expanding to fill the bore, thus stopping the knocking.

Mine goes away between 1 and 5 minutes, depending how cold it is prior to starting.

Sounds to me like you didn't get the right rod bearings or something.

just use a screw driver, (but be careful) put the handle to your ear and put the metal to where ever. works great =P

Yeah, that's a good idea and cheaper than the automotive stethoscope...
