Default To Rebuild Or Replace? y8

I got rod knock the other day while i was getting tuned and I'm in a pickle. Should I replace bearings and rings and make sure the block and crank are ok or should i just replace the whole motor? Im thinking about abandoning forced induction because i dont have to money to keep fixing things, any thoughts?

Well Rod knock doesn't mean your motor is shot...If I were you I'd just pull the block apart and see what's going on in side there. It doesn't cost much to replace the bearings if you can do the labor on taking our the engine and taking it apart yourself.

Ditch the y8 block and get a Z6.

so i pulled the head today and was shocked to see a very clear cross hatch still on the cylinder walls. So my thoughts are that with some fresh bearings and just run it n/a for a while, it should be fine, rings seem to be fine and the car never smoked. Any thoughts?

My thoughts are I wouldn't keep a y8 block because it had a good crosshatch, I'd throw it away because the oil pumps have been proven to be as reliable as a 12 year old stoner.

lol.... send it to me, i'll take it off your hands.

Either way, you need to pull it apart and see if any damage has been done yet. Mainly to the crank. Looking at the cross hatching will not help you any, as i have yet to not see cross hatching on any of the honda motors i've had apart.

i thought it was because the cranks only have one oil hole instead of two like most other d-series. i.e. z6

and i wouldnt just throw new bearings in it without checking the crank. because more than likely it is trashed or will need to be fixed. i would just get a new crank though.

i have swapped out about 10 y8 motors for customers with spun rod bearings.
