D16y7, D16y8: internals, interchangeable: yes or no!
So I have 5 weeks until import alliance, and to much **** to fix on my car, with this little of a budget, I have a y7, and a y8. The y7's block is trash, so im swapping in the y8. Comes to find out the y8 had a spun rod bearing, so the crank, and one rod is trash.
Question: Can I use the y7 crankshaft, with the y8 block, and can I use the y7 rod and pistons with the y8 block?

we have 3 good y7 rods and pistons and three good y8 rod and pistons, both cranks are trash, but both blocks are good, only thing we need is a crank and crank kit....so what im getting at is can i use 3 y7 rods and pistons and 1 y8 and put it in the y7 block or vice versa

you can swap out internals it makes no difference the heads r what makes them a y8 or a y7. One main difference in the blocks is that the y7 blocks r better for low boost u just have to watch for over heating b/c ur pistons will seize to the cylinder walls, and on the y8's the #1 and #3 rod bearings are bad for spinning. but u cud do like i did n go oversized bearings in the y8 get rods clipped n ur fine. cost me 150bux at my local machine shop
