Icon6 Check out my 1st time bondo

Ok so It's winter and I have nothing to do but my cars. I have decided to bondo my del sol because it has some bad cancer. Ok here are the first pictures of when i took off everything. The old bondo was from my older brother he sucked. Will NEED TO SAND AWAY ALL RUST AND OLD BONDO BEFORE anything else.
Will post up pictures daily.
Tell me what you think. No negative comments PLEASE give advice to what i can do better to improve.

Ok so first to kill any leftover rust, I'd primed the spot and put bondo over it when it dried. Not so good but. It'll do.

what did you use to apply it. i did my first bondo job about 4 months ago with the help from my uncle who manages a maaco. try not to make it so rough and bumpy your going to have a hell of a time trying to get that down smooth, make sure you use spot and glaze putty too. and next time really sand down the area and clean it good to make sure the bondo really sticks. apply just enough to cover and smooth the spot and before it dries make it as flat as possible.

another tip, keep a razor blade next to you for when it starts to dry you can get some of those big clumps off before it gets too hard

Thanks yeah, I've kinda forgot to use glaze putty and had already sanded everything and painted it, just havn't taking any pictures yet.. I will tomorrow when the paint dries and adding another layer.. Should it be good if i add about 4 layers of color and then 3-4 layers of clear coat. Will this be good enought to avoid cracks in the future.

if you get bubbles, use glazing putty over top of it then sand that down. When you get good, dust it with some black primer and sand it to see where the hi/low spots are.

With out alot of experince or working around a bunch of paint and body guys will you really be able to get the "TOUCH" where you can just rub your hand down the side and find the high and low spots but my best advice to you is put the electric sander down and get a block and block everything. Of course you can use the electric to knock it down but once you start trying to blend it then you need to switch to the block to make sure that there are no dips in it.

x3 I've seen it many times before. A year and a half TOPS, and it will come right back, if you didn't do it the "right" way.

x4 on the rust deal, the works only as good as you make it, and if you can get your hands on a dura-block that would help a lot for all those curves your working with. Hit it with 180 first to get it close then move up to 240 and such

1st things 1st, You didnt remove the rust. This is a hack job from the get go. Spraying some primer over the rust then spreading some bondo is a joke. Any proper job involves removing all rust and either using sheet metal or some type of fiberglass reinforced filler to rebuild the infected areas.

yeaha a kid who lived down the street from me built half of his front end with bondo, then lowered it, scraped coming out of his drive way and achunk of his car fell off.

good advice... do it right, do it once

Thats some funny *hit I know a kid by me that did the almost same thing. Except he used chicken wire and bondo to make a complete widebody kit on his 95 cavalier. Poor car must have weighed 3 ton when he was done. He even custom made a dash from chicken wire and bondo.

Yeah, more like 6 months, theres just no getting around having to cut and weld when it comes to rust removal. As soon as it starts to rust again under the bodyfill its going to push against the body fill and crack and bubble, it'll actually look worse than the rust thats on it now does.

Sorry its been a while. Well here's the finished job.
I forgot to cover the panel under the wheel but i think the color should wore off after couple of weeks. I no it's not the best and I'M not the best but im going to just do this for now and maybe take it to the shop in the summer because a good friend is hooking me up with a great price. on a full body work.
