my tires on my car are starting to suck and its winter here so i want some new tires. i have the stock 98 civic ex steelies on it. my current tire size is 185/65/14. i have gotten stuck many times now and i am really getting sick of it. i would like some wider tires but not sure how wide of tires i can fit on the stock wheels and without looking bad.

mostly for traction yes. I found some on tire rack that looked good and got good rateings i just thought i could add even more traction if i got something a little wider also insted of having pizza cutters.

 

For snow traction you don't want to go wider, you want more weight per square inch. Pick out tires that have lots of sipes (cuts in the tread) to them and make sure they are cut all the way down to have maximum traction for the life of the tire. If snow is pretty bad there I would recommend getting actual snow tires. My personal choice would be the blizzak ws-60 or if that's a little high in price than go with the firestone winterforce. Due to their soft rubber design, they are not recommend for the summer though.

 

looking mainly for all season. so far the pirelli P4's and Yokohama AVID TRZ seems to have the best ratings on tire rack

 

Maybe 195-55-15?

 

ya i would go with like a 195/55 or 195/60 , and tire brand is up to your personal peference!!!....good luck

 

i think i am going to go with some 195/60/14. as tire rack has no all season 195/55/14's

also it seems like in that size the Bridgestone Potenza has the best reviews.

 

Wider tires won't help you in snow, it will make it worse. You want narrow tires that can 'cut' through the snow.

Stick with 185/65-14 and get good winter tires.
