Icon2 Windshield wipers not moving - clicking sound

I have a 97 Honda Accord.

My windshield wipers went out. I was driving and all of a sudden they stopped moving.
Anyway, I can still hear the windshield motor, but none of the wipers moves.

I opened the hood and noticed some clicking sound. I think it comes from the fuse box. Is that possible? And what does that mean?

Thank You

It would seem that the drive link from the motor to the Right Side Wiper Pivot may have broken at the ball link. Refer #12

That is located directly under the fuse box. If you can move both wiper arms together by grabbing just one, that tells me that the cross link #11 is secure - the problem is most likely #12

yea, you are right. If I move one wiper they are both moving.
So how do I go about fixing that number 12 part? Is it difficult to get there?

You will have to replace the rod! I just went through this process. The rod will cost you about 25 bucks. I went onto ebay and actually found a whole assembly for 28 bucks so I bought it and slapped the whole assembly in and it works perfect.

It is quite easy to change. Just lift the hood! Take off the wipers (14mm socket) than take out the screws holding the black cover on and than just pry it up but you wil have to grab one end and actually pull it out from behind the hood but just be careful. You can break it. Than you will see the wiper assembly. Just remove the 3 (10mm bolts) and than unhook the motor wire located right in front of the firewall it is under a silver box on the driver side. I had to take out the 10mm bolt and lift the silver box thing up and than pull apart the connector for the wiper motor in order to get the assembly out! It was much easier than trying to sit there trying to pull the connector apart from underneath!

is there a more specific term for the part I need? Because I don't need new wipers right, just the parts behind it.

Industry-wise, that assembly of parts is called a wiper transmission (for obvious reasons)

You might try
wiper link(s)
wiper pivot(s)
wiper transmission

ps: Here's the link you need. I'm sorry if I sound put out, but it took all of 15 seconds to search EBay for this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-95...spagenameZWDVW

$20.00 bucks for the whole thing.
I suggest you sharpen your search skills.

you are right. I didn't search hard enough. I was a little confused that only one seller would sell this item.

Anyway, I ordered the item and I'll follow the guide posted here. Wish me luck and I'll let you know how it went.

Thank You for your help

Mine went out sometime last year. Lving in Las Vegas I don't have to worry too much about rain. Took it all apart tonight with the help of the diagrams on this link and a few others, thanks guys, it was a big help.

The #12 rod is off the ball, it appears that the white cap that holds it on is missing. Is that replaceable or do I need a whole unit?

That's a nylon bushing and sorry, it's not serviced seperately.
Good use of the search function (by the way )

Hey Thanks P, you just solved my problem as well. My wipers stopped moving last night driving home in the rain, made for a tough ride.

I had the same problem as JDofLV, # 12 rod had popped off the ball joint. Looks like I probably lost the same bushing. Guess I will need to order the same rod, but hey, this is much better than taking it into a shop!

I'm guessing this is a common issue with part # 12? My wipers aren't working either and I hear my wiper motor working as well.
