ok what is the deal w/ egt gauges? did search and i get tons of different anwers!
some people say when they cruise at 70-80 mph their temp is around 800 C*
others say dont go over 800 C*, some say if your running lean youll have high temp but yet others say if youre running rich youll have a high temp cause of the unburned gas in the manifold.
all this adds up to one confused and frustrated human being, whats the deal? cause when i boost my gauge does read 800+ C, when i drive around at 60-80 it varies from 700-800 C, am i safe? i richened her up a little to see if temp would go down but all that does is bog the car down,

Yes you are safe. When I boost I am around 800-820C. By 850+C you start melting stuff, and at normal driving I am around 700-780C. What I have found is that outside temperatures effect the EGT temps so it is pretty hard to determine whether you are running rich or lean. It is more helpful to know that your not melting anything. From what I read if you are running leaner your exhaust temps will be hotter, and if you are rich you will run cooler, but there are other factors too like timing and outside temps that can change the egt temps. If you do a search someone posted a website with all the info you need.
