Default Who works at a Honda dealer?

I want to change my oil in my Mugen Si, the dealer i bought it at said it was fine that it wouldnt void the warranty but as long as i had receipts for it. now my question is what receipts do i need? i will be buying a filter from honda and then just Mobil 1 from my local parts store are those the reciepts they are referrering to? or did they mean reciepts showing that i got it done? and should i also write down date and milage which i did my oil change. thanks in advance

receipts would just be used to show that you purchased oil and filters. i dont know if dealerships actually look at your service record for warranty stuff, but i have taken my car in a couple of times for warranty stuff and they have never turned me down even though i do my own oil changes. i keep records of the mileage when i do oil changes (for my own records) but i have never been asked for them.

If you do the oil change yourself all you need is receipts from the auto parts store showing that you purchased the oil and filter. If you have the oil change done at a shop make sure you keep their receipt that they give you. It's a precaution dealers take to cover their end to make sure you are doing your part in terms of vehicle maintenance.

If you do the oil change yourself you don't need to write down the date and mileage. The date will obviously be printed on the receipts and as long as the intervals between purchases aren't excessive and pretty much match up to the recommended intervals for the oil changes you'll be fine.

His dealer never said he couldn't have anyone else change it. Read the post again. They basically told him to keep the receipts for the parts purchase (oil and filter). He might not have spelled it out in his post....but it's pretty much implied.....what other kind of receipts would he have if he changed the oil himself??

Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, it is illegal for an automobile manufacturer to void your warranty if you don't have it serviced by the dealership; they must honor the warranty as long as all recommended services have been performed. It is also illegal for them to void your warranty due to the presence of aftermarket parts, unless it can be determined that the aftermarket part caused the failure.

I wouldn't worry about saving oil recepts, but I would document all services that you perform on the vehicle. Honda provides a maintenance history book along with the rest if the vehicle documentation to keep records of services.

Why?....it's the same engine. That pretty much sounds like a slap in the face to Honda's motor oil.

Just for info, "Honda" motor oil -- i.e., the stuff labeled "Honda Motor Oil" -- is manufactured by Exxon-Mobil and sold in N. America under a license agreement with Honda. (No mystery here, "Exxon-Mobil" is printed on the container.) It's a "good" conventional oil, and is identical to the stuff sold by Exxon-Mobil under their own label.

Very few if any Honda dealerships use actual Honda-branded oil (which, as mentioned above, is just conventional oil sourced from ExxonMobil). Most dealers have a deal to purchase bulk oil from a local distributor, be it Valvoline, Castrol, Mobil, etc.

Interesting bit of info and something I didn't know.

But my question still stands. Why would a Honda dealer put Mobil1 in a Mugen and not in an ordinary Si even though they have the exact same engine??

No idea. I was scratching my head at that comment as well because it wasn't particularly clear.

Also, to elaborate further on what I told you above: While most dealerships buy bulk oil from a local distributor in the two most common viscosities (5w-30 and 5w-20), they do still use Honda-branded oil in special circumstances, such as for hybrids that require 0w-20 oil which is unavailable from the usual sources, or with the less common 10w-30 used in S2000s.

yes sir thanks to i believe President Ford on January 4, 1975, pass that law ... dealer will have to go after that person who did the work and sue them ... you can have any aftermarket parts on your car as you wish. and they will still have to service it.

"Mobil 1" is not a company; it's a product brand of ExxonMobil. Chances are your dealership used conventional Mobil oil, not exclusively the "1" synthetic.

I haven't decided whether ExxonMobil's advertising is a success or a failure with the amount of people out there who can't distinguish between "Mobil" and "Mobil 1" labeling.
