i still don't even feel that my v-tec is kicking in
i have pretty good amout of mods on my 97 civic ex...i have a b&m fuel regulater and i have a cold air intake and catback exhaust and unorthadox racing pulley and i race a bone stock civic and it kept up with me a car length. but im having exhaust leaks i don't know if you lose power but i don't think my vtec is kicking in
Can you rev to redline?
The vtec on the EX engine is designed for fuel economy not high end performance. It should be a smooth transition when it switches to the second cam profile. If you look at dyno's, there is often a slight drop in power when vtec engages.

on my friends ex he could never hear his vtec kick in cause its so quiet...you barely hear the cam switch over...its very quiet...also i think exhaust leaks do affect performance...im not too sure on that though

vtec on the y8 is not a sudden kick in power. its not in any vtec motor. its a smooth transition. its just that the d series is not your power breathing monster. simple bolt-ons arent gonna make you fast. youll get a lil better performance but thats about it. the easiest way to get somin out of these motors is forced induction.
