Default H2B vs. K20 Swap

Hey guys,

I'm pretty sure im gonna get flamed for not searching previous posts but sorry this is a specific scenario and i'm asking for your advice on my situation.

I current have a dc2 body running a H22A stock. Hasport Mounts, Injen Intake, 3 inch exhaust, P28 Chipped/Tuned. I was looking at my options for next season they are either go H2B, Or get rid of the H and just do a K series swap. I have seen many different debates on this topic but not to sure which would be the smarter move in my situation. I know the K is more expensive but im willing to dish out the money if its worth it. Just looking for some input on my situation. Thanks for your time guys.

k is the only way to go! the best part of it is with kpro you can advance and retard at any range of rpm. so its super safe to make power!

One of the major plus points of the K to my understanding is the angle of the valves in comparison to the H head. The K can handle bigger cam profiles. Someone correct me if i'm mistaken.

if you already have the h22, just go h2b! get yourself a nice trans, adapter kit (QSD FTW!!) and spend your left over money on some sk2 pro-1's and a nice header, get it tuned and put down 220+whp...you will forget all about those pesky k motors (except when they are in your rear view lol)

Whats your budget?

Going from H22 to H2B will cost you a fair amount of money, but going K-series will be even more expensive.

If you have the money to burn, go K. If your on a smaller budget and your current motor is strong, do what fast2camciv said. :p

Id rather do this than spend 6-7K on a k-series swap to get about the same amount of power

compete on what level? price? hp? tq? ease of installation? price...about half, even less since you already have the h22...

hp? tq? h22's with bolt on's and tuning are making 220whp 150-160flbs tq...and we are talking $1500 worth of bolt ons and tuning, 2-3k like k series (mainly in the tuning department, eCtune is $199 compared to k-pro, 2k)

ease of instalation...your going to need new mounts for the k series also, and your going to need to re-weld your tranny mount, so those are mute points. you will probably be able to bolt your shifter back up if you didnt get all crazy cutting the hole for the h22. besides a k-series box requires modifications too.

apples and oranges my friend...your going to have do the same amount of work, just different avenues, either way....its just that more of your setup crosses over with an h2b, and its a lot cheaper for the same amount of performance.

I've never seen a good race between a H2B and K20A car. I'd love to see 2 similar cars with similar mods and the competing motors duke it out.

There is an entire FAQ at the top of this forum regarding what H2B is. It is an H series motor paired with a B series transmission.

I've heard a lot about H2B and I plan on going with an H2B in the future. I currently have an LS swap so I'm doing a hop, skip, and a jump kinda thing. H2B is definitely cheaper then a k series swap. I've heard that H2B and K swaps are equal in power; I've also heard H2B stomps all over a K series. If you want to save yourself some money, I would go with the H2B.

If you have the money go for the K, I have seen some K's almost stock run low 12's then again that is a back half gutted 92-95 Civic hatchback for the price a H2B is better whats the cost of the kit and cluth under $1700 long block of H22 $1000 and B trans $900-1000, ECU $200= $3900 maybe bit less or bit more vs a stock K20 motor $4000-up.

if you can take your time and piece either of them together for the same price go with the k. its more reliable and has more potential. new parts come out for it almost every week now and they are getting cheaper and cheaper
