I had this problem with my old d series transmission, it ended up being my input shaft bearing. If it was your throw out bearing it would do the whining when you pushed the clutch in.

it's inside of the casing. you would have to take your tranny apart to fix this problem.

I had a bearing problem with my Y7 tranny...it was going to cost $900-1200 for a transmission shop to fix. It only cost me $150 to buy a JDM D15B tranny from a local importer.

grab a service manual. I spent less then 150 and I replaced all the bearings and syncros. If your just doing the isb the job really is easy and not very expessive to do. if you can pull the trans and change a clutch you should be able to change the isb just follow the service manual and ask a lot of questions.

x2, if you want to do this by yourself OP, grab the helms manuel, you can find it at your local autoparts store, but if you've never worked on your car besides an oil change, i would take it to a shop. gl on your fix man

Yeah i'm with the others on this one, the job isn't real hard and if someone is wanting to charge $900 or so to fix this then they are trying to rip ppl some new ones... ?? anyways, just get the manual and everything.. all you really need is a pair of snap ring pliers, a socket, rachet, and a little bit of time..

i have the same thing happening with mine too. is this something major that should be fixed or can the tranny still go awhile without fixing it?

you could still drive it for a little bit, but if you just don't eventually try to get it fixed or get another transmission it could lock up inside of the transmission..
