Default The BEST transmission setup (gearing wise)

Hey ht, i am looking for the best transmission setup (gearing wise) for my setup. I daily drive my car everyday in the summer time, so i was def thinking an ls 5th gear. I currently have a gsr (bone stock) trans in it. I do alot of thruway racing but i also race often on the dragstrip too. In 1/8th mile and 1/4.... But i do more thruway pulls 40 and up than anything...

So basically what would be the best setup for gears in my gsr transmission that will kind of suite all my needs??

Here is my setup:

Motor/Turbo Setup
GSR Motor 60k, 2k since rebuild
9:1 Comp ratio
JE Pistons
Eagle Rods
OBX Intake mani
ARP Head Studs
AEM 3 bolt cam gears
Borg Warner GM-8 turbo
New style SSAC mani
38mm wastegate
2.5 bar motorola map sensor
3 inch DP
2.5 inch charge piping
No name front mount
Chipped p06 with added Vtec trassistors and datalogging
880cc PTE injectors
B+M FPR
KKS SSQ BOV
3 inch catback
Sunpro Boost gauge/Autogauge oilpresure, and water temp. (On A-piller)

(I am currently running 16psi, I hit full spool around 3500rpm. And making around 400whp)

All that info is pretty much worthless, you should be looking at a dyno graph to determine exactly what you need.

Yes, actually, you do. If you truly want the best gearing for your engine, you do. Without know where you make what power, how can anyone decide shift points or desired rpm drop per shift?

Only exception is an autocross car. Then you just make sure 2nd can get you into the high 60s / low 70s and the 1-2 upshift isn't insane.

Well i dont have a dyno. So i guess im just going to put an ls 5th in for gas millage because it is my dd and i never go into 5th gear when im running somebody so. Any advise for putting in an ls 5th? I am taking Manuel trans in school and already have an ls 5th from my other trans so its a perfect opportunity to do it...that is why i asked what i asked...

A lot of trannys share the same gears, check out http://hondaswap.com/reference-mater...n-specs-29132/ you can pick whatever gears you want and make a transmission you desire. The higher the number the shorter the gear.

There is a lot of info about upgrading gears from MFactory. They make a variety of gears in different ratios for hondas, and will be able to help you select the proper gears/final drive for you application.

Just because some idiot does something doesn't mean it's the right way to do something.

You know all those guys switching to LS transmission because the gears are "longer" and they can stay in boost "longer"? Yeah, okay. 'nuff said!

I've always liked the GS-R Trans for boost personally.

If I was boosting I would get GS-R Trans, Longer 1st gear and install a non-clutch type LSD

Here, I wrote this specifically for questions like these. However, you really do need to see your torque curve to fully utilize custom gearing options. Other wise, your left with out knowing where your true power band is.

So you don't even have a dyno sheet? Or worse, is this car even tuned? If it's not, I'd be way more concerned with getting this thing dyno tuned instead of figuring out how to better street race it.

yes the car is tuned...there would be no way in hell i would make roughly 400wheel if i wasnt tuned, and if it did, it would probly run so shity that gearing would be the LEAST oof ym problems...Anyways Iv been thinking about it and i figured that gsr trans the way it is, is prolly the best thing for my setup right now...Specialy like you guys said, becouse i dont know where my powerband is...its really not going to help me. I could actualy just hurt myself by trying to find out which gears i should put in..

I made this thread thinking that there was just setups out there, that were pretty close to mine where people had different gears in there trans that worked out better for them than oem. If there was i was going to try them out.
