The weak point in the B series engine is the piston skirts; therefore, addressing something that isn't the weakest point is a waste of time. If you're going to skimp on anything, get a set of pistons and forget the rods; however, i dont recommend either route. I know i'm not supposed to suggest it, but if you want, i have a set of slightly used GSR eagle rods and Arias 9:1 pistons hanging out in my garage.

From what I've read and heard stock pistons cannot be used on aftermarket rods and vice versa without machine shop work, custom rod end or custom wrist pin.

If you are tearing apart the block to install one item, why not buy multiple items to beef it all up and make it more reliable if your boosting/juicing.

The previous owner of my car got JE pistons and kept the rods stock. What blew was the rod cap getting owned and shooting up into a cylinder completely obliterating my entire block from head to pan.

Do yourself a favor and get both forged pistons/rods.

aftermarket rods are usually made to fit with aftermarket pistons with floating wrist pins. oem wrist pins are press fit and different than a floating. so to use a floating wrist pin on an oem rod, you can get the oem piston customized to fit the floating pin.
