Default motor cuts off

so i have a mini me swap. it's a y8 head and im using the odb2a ex ecu. so when im driving when i try to hit vtec the motor cuts off. it cuts off at exactly 5700rpm. and if i upshift and the rpms drop below 5700 it runs fine. any ideas?
