Default motor identification help please..

sup guys . i jst pick up a ek hatch. 98 but i think the motor was swapped or maybe not. its a single cam d16z6 . is that the original motor or not. its a dx by the way. if its not wat car does that motor come in? by the way its a vtec motor because of the vtec solenoid. but sorry to get off topic but. a p28 is a vtec ecu rite? my car wen driving feel like it cant rev over 3 or 4grand. i have no tach but ill accelerate and it kind of bogs down til i shift to second and then it does it again . do u guys know wat could be causing that. i was thinking the ecu might do that if the motor is swapped and they didnt put a vtec ecu. let me know thanks

the z6 is a 92-95 motor. and its obd1. you should have a d16y8 if its vtec. if its a z6 then its been swapped in.

the stock motors that come in the dx hatchbacks are d16y7 non-vtec. The p28 is the ecu for the d16z6. The motor has been swapped. You need to check over the wiring to make sure its all correct. But it sounds like your motor is running in limp mode. Are you throwing any check engine lights at all?

Limp mode is when your ECU forces the engine to operate at drastically reduced power/potential in order to protect it from being damaged. The engine will "run" but only enough to allow you to "limp" home. Hence the term "limp mode."

If you have the D16Z6 and they didn't change the ECU to handle the VTEC settings your car will do exactly what you are describing.
