Default OBDIIa or OBDIIb

search engine is currently not working for me ... anyway for those of you who dont already know, i have a 2001 accord ex ... f23a4 SOHC ULEV blah blah ... im trying to do some research before i start my h22 swap ... i already know ULEV has a slightly different wire harness than that of a non ULEV f23 ... now my question is ... is my car a OBDIIa or OBDIIb?

i will be swapping a h22a1 to be specific and run a obdI ecu because of the immobilizer issue until i get a hondata s300 ... im going to use a jumper harness obdIIb to obdI ... and being that my harness has a couple extra wires from the ULEV feature should i assume there is going to be issues with the jumper harness? because not all obdIIb ecu's have ULEV right?

Your car is OBD2B, Shouldn't have any issues running something like:

http://www.boomslang.us/obd2to1.htm

Same company I used and the harness looks just like that

If you have extra pins in there for ULEV stuff (none off the top of my head I could think of though) it shouldn't matter as the rest of the pins should be the same. You could just ask the Boomslang guys with your order for sure however. If you're changing out the ECU and Motor then it's not going to matter about those extra sensors - assuming the rest of the ECU pinning is the same.

well im changing out both the ecu and the motor ... im just trying to keep my same harness, even though i know it would be easier to just get a harness from a h22a1 and i just might if i can find one dirt cheap ... i just realized i can use my wire harness from my spare f23a1 non-ulev ... and just get the obd jumper

I'm pretty sure there is no difference in the wireing harness between the ULEV VTEC(f23a4) and the regular VTEC(f23a1) motor. the ECU is different, but I can't think of any wireing differences.

and it is a 2B car either way.

thanks for all the help everyone ... well i guess ill just have to wait and see on that ... now i have to figure out how im going to get the driver side mount to work ... ive read that you can use all accord mounts fit dead on except that driver side ... and solid mounts are rather hard to find for a f to h swap

There ARE a few differences in the pin-out between A1 and A4.

I went from a stock ULEV Accord to a stock LEV A1 motor, then OBD1 conversion on the LEV motor. I didn't find them for quite a while after I swapped to OBD1, but they are there. The first one I can think of off the top of my head is the O2 sensor pins are all different. I know there were more, but I'll have to look at my harness tonight to get you the specifics.

sweet i definately appreciate the help ... would it be easier if i just used the harness off a f23a1? that way i dont have to deal with wiring aside from the jump from obdIIb to obdI itself?

PM'd for copyright reasons. I'll post up an explanation in my own words tomorrow.

I don't do H swaps, so I can't help you out with the wiring there. Once I figured out what I was doing, taking the F23A4 harness to an OBD1 friendly setup was a pretty simple process of swapping two or three wires on the factory harness ECU plugs.

Since your car is a 2001 model, your ECT gauge won't work immediately after the OBD1 swap. You'll have a couple options to fix that if you'd like, but that's another topic all together.

Sounds like it's just the block/head probably no tranny/ecu for that price.

nope ... just complete head and block ... thats why i will be using my harness with a jumper ... my trans ... and i have to get a regular obdI for my application ecu until i get a s300 hondata ...

as far as motor mounts ... all i could find are innovative mounts ... how are they anyone have them? here's a link to a site that carries them and has information on them:

you can do the swap with stock mounts. You don't need the innovative parts.

not sure if you knew that or not, so just thought I'd mention it.

It's my understanding that you can order them in different harnesses, but the people I've talked to who have them say they feel like solid mounts, and the car vibrates like a race car.

I have ES Poly inserts in my OE mounts with a 9lb flywheel and used to have my balance shaft belt removed, but I often wish it was completely back to stock. The vibration at idle with the A/C on or around town starting off in 1st sometimes even gives me headaches. It's great for launching, but I can't imagine having full poly mounts. I'd go crazy.

EDIT: I'd atleast get an H23 tranny for that motor. The F trans wouldn't do it justice.

i wouldnt want my bolts to rattle loose lol ... hmm its a tough choice ... i dont think stock accord mounts would hold up ... i mean mine are already done as it is with the f23 ... well eventually im going to get the matching trans and lsd ... but im on a budget
