so here's the deal, just started the other day, and it only does it when the car has been sitting in the cold for a while.....i have a 97 honda civic and when you start it it starts up but makes a loud grinding noise, sounds like the noise it makes when the car is already running and you turn the key. car has a new clutch and flywheel put on bout 4 months ago.

any ideas?

i had this happen on my old civic and i bought a new starter and it still didn't work...
turned out i had a faulty battery... check the charge on your battery... or atleast start there...

 

no other ideas? anybody think it's the starter?

 

might be a falty starter like you said. have it checked at autozone
