or
gearbox speed gear(inside gearbox) or wiring between vss(vehicle speed sensor plugs into gearbox on outside of casing) and cluster.

VSS= Voltage Speed Sensor. I know because I read a thread about it.

And wheres the voltage come in when you have a cable VSS???
And im sure voltage doesnt need to have its speed measured where a vehicle does.

Read any honda service manual. If you came in to the honda dealers I worked at asking for a voltage speed sensor you would be told theres no such thing, Just like the people that ask for clutch fluid and vtec fluid lol.

Just answering the question. Not sure if it pertains to the car he has or not.

OP, what year is your car? (94-01 have an electric VSS, 93 and older have a speedometer cable.)

Does your odometer work?

It could be a bad VSS, bad wire, or bad green film on the cluster. Check the connector on the VSS.

x2.

I've had prongs on the connector break off into the harness plug before..which results in no speedo..

^^ Say what? I guess I just imagined the VSS (part # 78410-ST7-003)...
VSS is the vehicle speed sensor stuck into the top of the transmission, reading the ring gear from your differential.

VSS has power, signal and ground. If you jack up one wheel and spin it, with the ignition on, you should see pulses of 0V-5V-0V-5V on the signal wire.

If the VSS works (which it probably does), then your problem is with the wiring or the cluster. Most likely the cluster is going bad, but another possibility would be the wiring harness grounding out on the back of the intake manifold.
Good luck!
