Code 54, the engine installers tell me to replace the distributor......There idiots.
Okay for those of you who don't know I had the rod bearings in my old engine go out on me and had to have the engine replaced emergency style (no swap
). Well, this installer (AUTO WORKS of Oceanside) not only do I feel I got ripped off but there service sucks. SO, I am driving to work on Tuesday morning and the Check engine light flashes......54. Crank Fluctuation Sensor. Now I have to go back home and take the truck and have my wife take the car in. (Work 60 miles north). She take it in and they tell her it is the distributor, it's going out.
Yesterday on my 90 mile drive home (I-5 closed had to take the LONG WAY home). The car starts to drive like **** (misfire although I didn't know how they felt until now), DAMN I am still 30 miles from home. I keep driving. I just wanted to be home. So while I am driving with it in this condition I start to think about the CFK sensor and related stuff and I remember someone in some thread talking about Plug wires causing misfires.......Distributor related......why not. I wait until I am at a place where I know my wife can find me, pull over and pop the hood.
HOLY ****, the #2 wire is almost out of the engine........I pop it back on and the engine starts to sound better......well if that one was loose what about the others.....Pop, Pop, POP!!! WTF!!! Okay, let's rev via the trottle body and see what happens.......Still runs like crap.....hmm.....Follow wires to distributor and POP, POP.......HOLY ****, you would think if they could put an engine in they would remember to put the plugs on right!!!! DAMN.
Engine runs great, no codes......now to get back to the suspesion.......Sigh.

Is this on the D16Y8?? How many miles?
Sounds like the distributor to me. install it YOURSELF. It takes like 5 minutes. It should cost around 200. IF they install it they will charge you 400.
I made that mistake years ago before I knew much about cars.
OH you can tell if you dist. is on the way out if it suqeeks.
