Default 95 V-6 cold heater, hot temp gauge

Hi there, I am new to the forum and don't know what your community protocols are. I hang out in a Chevelle, Subaru, and Volvo forum, I hope I don't offend anyone. Like asking this question, if it's obvious to all you Honda people, or been beat to death! I couldn't find what I was looking for in a search.

My son's fiance remarked that she freezes in her 95 V-6 50K mile car, saying heater doesn't work well. My first thought was a stuck open thermostat. I told her the temp gauge should read about half the scale after 5 minutes, and to watch. So today she emails me, and tells me that the heater warmed up, and the needle was pointing in the red. Doh! I told her to park it....

Anyway, is there anything obvious here? A water pump is just an impellor on a shaft, usually a bad one is just a seal leak. Do the shafts ever shear off? Seems like that would tear stuff up pretty noticeably. That's all the data I have at this point.

Thanks for your help!

I will have to load up my tools and travel to their college town to do this, where is the stat on this motor, higher or lower? Is it buried under a bunch of components, or reasonable accessible? Is the bleed nut easy to identify?
