The idler pulley bearing in my 99 ej8 is going bad, since I never use the a/c any way I thinking about taking compressor belt off. After looking the service manual it appears the compressor and idler pulley are the only things affected by removing the belt correct?

Would this affect my heating in any way?

Assuming that I’m good to go so far-
what would happen if the a/c switch was activated for a brief period w/o the belt? Is there a fuse I could pull to prevent this? After looking at the schematics on pages 21-5 and 22-7 of the service manual Im lost.

my friend has same car with no a/c belt, he has no problems

 

you will not have a problem taking off the belt. even if you switched the ac on its still not going to do anything due to the fact that the compressor is belt driven. the switch activates the compressor clutch to turn with the pulley. since there is no belt to turn the compressor pulley it will not engage causing any damage. the problem taking your belt off is that you will lose AC and partial defrost. by that i mean when you turn your car over to defrost only the car is actually using the AC system to "defog" your windows. you will not have any problems with your heat either...

 

It'll be just fine. And a tip, if you want to to it quick... just cut the belt and pull it off. You really should just get it fixed though, it costs like $30 to replace and is very easy. Plus, having A/C helps your car's resale value.
