Default Driver side window won't go down

It's been a problem for a little while that i would have to hit my switch to get the window to work so i figured the switch was broken about 2 weeks ago it completely stopped working so time to start searching for a new switch, i found one on CL and put it on.... still doesn't work! Idk how to check if the motor for the window is just dead. is there anything else that could be wrong other then the motor? how can i tell if it is the motor? where is the motor? and how much is a new one going to run me?

When my window first "failed", it was simply the track that hte rear side of the widow slides in being dirty. Cleaning out that track restored operation. Check that before continuing.

The 2nd time my driver window went out, it ended up being an electrical short, probably from getting the switch wet repeatedly (smoking while driving in the rain, and autocross w/ windows down in the rain), but the short fried the switch, the regulator, and the motor. Cost was nearly $900 at the dealership for all 3 parts, labor, and tax. There was a burnt wire found, the fuse was intact, and all 3 electrical parts were tested individually and found to be dead. Hopefully that isn't the case for you.

when it was just the track being dirty did it make any noises like it was trying to go down? mine literally doesn't do anything anymore. and for a little while it wasn't automatically going down after you just push the button but it was going automatically up.

Made noises while moving slowly, when only somewhat dirty. Sound got louder and window slower over time. Stopped making any noise at all when the motor couldn't move the window (I thought I killed the motor pushing the window through the dirty track at first). Cleaned the track, sounded and operated normally, went on with life.

It stayed fine for 2 years after that, with no cleaning again. Then, poof, completely dead with fried electrical randomly one day.
